“Capture”

The show will run until March 24th.

Dan Arberry presents a show with a variety of mediums and subjects. A local artist from Grande Prairie (though originating in Ontario), his work is a mix of colours and monochromes, of media, and of subjects. The current show is a varied one, with individual and multi part pieces to catch the viewers interest.

So come on down and check it out – mere words do not do it justice!

Criteria

All media, sizes and types of work will be accepted

Open to artists of all ages from all cultures

Only original artwork is eligible. No copies from magazines, mechanical reproduction, kits, or commercial molds

Works previously displayed int he Peace Liard Regional Juried Art Exhibit are ineligible

Work must have been completed after January 2009

Limit of three entries per artists

Entry fees are $10 per entry ($5 for students)

Works difficult to move or install due to size, weight, or fragility should not be entered

Categories

Open
Artists may submit original work to the Open category that is representative of their own creativity and expression.

Student
This category is specifically for artists attending Middle or Senior Secondary schools within the Peace Liard Region (Home School students can also apply in this category)

Class Project
Submission to this category are works created in a class, under the direction fo an instructor. Work can be by an individual artists or a collaboration.

Exhibition Requirements

All work must be ready for hanging and/pr suitably prepared for exhibition

All specific exhibit instructions should be included with the work

The housing organizations have the right to the final decision ont he exhibition of the works

Entry forms available at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery.

Other Information:

Sales: Please indicate if your work is for sale. The hosting Arts Council will retain 25% commission on all work that is sold.
Shipping: Shipping costs are the artists’ responsibility. All work must be wrapped properly for shipping and labeled on the outside with the Title, your Name, Address, and Phone Number to ensure return. Insurance for the work during shipping is the responsibility of the artist. The hosting organizations retain the right to refuse to handle any work that is not packaged properly.

Circus North Workshop

Have you ever wanted to run away and join the circus? Well, here’s your chance!

The South Peace Community Arts Council and Green Fools Theatre Society are gearing up for the 7th Annual Circus North Workshop in Dawson Creek.

Students are exposed to various physical theatre elements including acrobatics, juggling, stilt walking, unicycle, trapeze, wire walking, dance, and clowning.

As part of the instruction, Green Fools Theatre Company will focus on teaching circus entertainment skills that help build the student’s self-confidence, team spirit, performance abilities, leadership skills and appropriate social manners. It all wraps up with a final performance which is open to family, friends, and the citizens in our community which showcases the skills students acquired in the workshop.

Children’s Art Classes

Sign your child up for an entire one month block of classes on the day of the weeks that suits both your schedule and your child. Not sure what your child will like? Try our tuesday classes! And don’t forget – art can be messy, but it will always be fun!

Mondays: Drawing
Develop observational and technical skills while experimenting with markers, pastels, pencils, charcoal, and more!

Tuesdays: Art Sampler
Explore techniques and medium, with an emphasis on learning what art form is most enjoyable to the child. Painting, drawing, building, each week is different.

Wednesday: Painting
Explore painting with different types of paint, and different ways to paint.

Thursdays: ‘Busy Hands’ Crafting and Model Building
Using various materials, we create planned projects. Difficulty will vary, and all projects will differ.

Intermediate Digital Photography

Each class will begin at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery and branch out to field trips for photo assignments and experimentation with different subjects and styles.
The beginners course (or equivalent experience) is required to attend this course. Also needed is a digital camera with manual and cable for downloading images.

Traditional Rug Braiding

Learn the basics of traditional rug braiding, and complete a chair paid or small table mat. By the end of the second day, everyone should have a completed project and be able to understand the basics of starting, braiding, lacing, and tapering a braided rug. This class is designed for adults only.

Dates: April 28-29 (Two Day course)
Cost: $50.00 +HST
Materials: tools will be provided for the class, with an option to purchase if desired. Students are to bring their own wool material. Please contaction instructor direction with questions, or to arrange purchase of a start-up kit of wool material.

CD Cover Design Competition

The Borderline Culture series will be recording some of the Peace Region’s best musicians at the new Demmitt Community Centre and needs a cover design.

Competition is open to all Northern Lights College students and community members from the British Columbia/ Alberta Peace Region

All submission must be sent in digital format (.jpg) but please save you work in a .tiff format for high quality printing in case your design is chosen

Design must be 124mm (H) X 126 mm (W) for front cover

All submitted designs will be reviewed by the Borderline Culture Committee and the NLC Foundation

Please submit your designs by March 31st, 2012

Result will be announced April 14th, 2012

Looking for titles as well, but please include Border or Borderline and Demmitt Hall

Dawson Creek Piecemakers Quilt Guilt Juried Quilt Show

My Journey Here

This juried quilt show is open too all quilters in the South Peace area of British Columbia (Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Baytree, Bonanza, Dawson Creek, etc.).
Entry for submissions is available from Aug 1st to Aug 15st of 2012 and will on display from September 17th to October 13th, 2012 at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery.
The opening event will be held Tuesday, September 18th at 7pm.
The quilt can be no larger than 60″ by 72″ and must have an original component (no kits will be accepted).

The “Journey” that you choose can include a Quilting, Geographical, Cultural Personal or Family one and be reflected in your artist statement.
Submissions include:

Your artist statement of 100 hundred words or less

1 overall picture of the quilt

2 or 3 close up pictures showing piecing and quilting details

A non refundable fee of $25.00

There will be a limit of 2 quilts per person or group
Submissions will be accepted via email.
